Higher or lower
The most basic thing an ear can do is tell which way a pitch moved. Higher means the air is vibrating faster; lower, slower.
Three moves
A pitch can climb, drop, or hold still. Play each move a few times and watch the keys: higher is to the right.
Small moves are the hard ones
A big leap is obvious. A one-semitone nudge is not. Compare a leap with a nudge. Both go up.
